Freestanding Lace Embellished Wreaths

Make the wreath

You'll Need:

  • a styrofoam wreath,
  • decorative ribbon,
  • a Freestanding Lace Design,
  • a bow (or other embellishments),
  • a thin piece of ribbon to hang the wreath,
  • glue and pins

    Enlarge Pictures

  • Halloween House

  • Wrap the decorative ribbon around the entire styrofoam wreath (I'm using a 6.5" wreath with a 4" opening) overlapping the ribbon as desired (The length you will need depends on the width of the ribbon you are using and how much you want it to overlap I haven't gone over 3 yards. if you are using wired ribbon I've found it's easier to take out the wire first.) pin and/or glue the ends in back to hide,
  • pin and/or glue the Freestanding Lace design onto the back,
  • pin AND glue a small ribbon to hang the wreath (just pinning it will not hold),
  • add a bow (and anything else that catches your fancy). Voila!!

These wreaths look great on a window, a wall, or an inside door (like in a dorm, nursing home, office, apartment, or kitchen cabinet).

  • Special Medically Approved I Spy Bags

Have to share with you this great project that was made for the children at the Shriners Hospital in Greenville, SC! Embroidered on special medical grade material so they could be played with by the children during their hospital stays, these 100 bags (WOW!!) were made by the dedicated volunteers at the Rags to Riches Cat Rescue, Inc. in Warrenton NC. Not all designs are possible with this special material (some are too stitch intensive) but these worked great and were approved by the hospital for full-out play time! Good job to those dedicated folks and thank you for sharing!

Start with a piece of material 22"x22" in size and serge around the edges of the fabric to give it a clean slate. Embroider or appliqué your design on the middle of the fabric (it's best to use a "thin" design so the entire image will show up when the project is completed).

    Beach Bag

To pucker the top and bottom of the bag: turn the top of the fabric under about two inches and pin. Using 1/4" elastic, sew the elastic to the materials at the two inch mark (where it was serged). Pull the elastic as you sew to give a puckering effect (you should end up using about 12" of elastic.) Do the same with the bottom, but just turn it under about one inch.

To complete the bag and add the handle, turn the material right side in (so your elastic is on the outside) and serge the back of the bag together. Take a piece of elastic (about 8") fold it in half and sew it to the top back of the bag at the seam.

Turn the bag right side out. Fill with used store bags, rags, socks, clothing. Enjoy.

    Laundry Bag

    Laundry Bag

Jazz up an every day laundry bag with a cute picture and caption. This extra-extra long bag with its secret compartment was hand-made, but a store bought laundry bag will also work.

The embroidered picture and text can be purchased here.
